Date Nut Bread

1 C. dated cut up fine
1 C. crushed walnuts
1 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
4 C. flour
2 t. baking soda
2 T. butter
2 C. sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten

• Sprinkle 2 t. baking soda over dates, pour 2 C. boiling water over dates. Let cool.
• Cream butter and sugar.
• Add dates and water to butter mixture.
• Add eggs.
• Add 4 C. flour slowly.
• Add salt, vanilla and walnuts.
• Bake 1 ½ hours at 250 in greased pans that are ½
